Rebreather Training Continued

This week saw the students at CDC continuing on with their training in the Drager Rebreather, as well as the DPV specialties course.

The Rebreather training has been moving along nicely…though one student discovered that the rebreather certainly works better when he turns the air on fully vice just a couple of turns.  That was dive one in the rebreather.  Dive two had us working in the shallows practicing the various skills for the rebreather.  Though in this dive, the student had some minor problems with keeping water out of the loop.  The dive went smoothly other wise.

As for the DPV training, its been determined that the Explorer is the faster of the two DPV’s but fast or slow…it does not seem to matter, as the divers seem to be leaving the water with that ear to ear grin on their faces.

Once again thank you to Tony Holmes and Canada Dive College for the excellent training!   Dive Deep!!

Reg Clinic

Canada Dive College and Suncoast Diving spent the last two days over in Vancouver working on the ScubaPro Regulator Technician clinic. The clinic was put on by Sharkbite, and was certainly time well spent. We worked on the 16, 17, 18, and Mk20-25 1st stage regulators, learning how to overhaul….and calibrate them.

Day 2 was spent tearing apart and doing the annual inspection and cleaning of the S600, X650, S295, and the Air two 2nd stages…

Time was well spent, and if you ever get the opportunity to take this clinic it’s sure well worth it….even if you will never work on someone’s or your own regulators. A special thanks to Rob and Tony for one getting on the clinic.

Trout Lake Ice Dive

If you freeze it we will come. So, we though we should prove it. Monday morning we loaded up BIG Blue and headed out to Trout Lake. Lew crawled out on to the ice to see how thick it was…and needless to say he needed an axe to cut a hole big enough in order to enter the water. As you can see in the picture the ice was close to 2 1/2 maybe 3 inches thick.

Tony tied off to of reels, one as the primary line and the second as the back up reel in event there is a problem with the first. Tony was the first to enter the water, and descended into the 37 degree water to do a quick recon of the entry hole. Next in was Kit, and then followed by Lew, and then Ken. As soon as Ken hit the water, the rental regs he was using froze and started to free flow…so that ended his dive.

The guys were down for a little over 20 minutes, and once they surfaced….they related how muddy and poor the visibility was….overall though…they had a great dive!! Some fun was had as we closed things up….be sure to check out the photo gallery, and the video loaded below.

Another great dive thanks to Tony Holmes from Canada Dive College.

Pool Training Day

Today was spent up in the Pender Harbor Pool working on our dive skills for the up coming IDC and IE. We had the pool for three hours of what turned out being fun, work, and laughter. Rob and Suncoast Diving had two Open Water Students there doing their confined water skills, while Tony and Canada Dive College were working on various Divemaster skills for assisting with Open Water Students.

Certainly a nice change of pace….but we are back at it come Monday….keep an eye out for a possible ice dive soon to come!!
