Drysuit factory, another off the assembly line!!

UWE and Suncoast Diving are happy to congratulate Kyle H. for his successful completion of the Drysuit course. Once the hayward-kyle.jpg knowledge reviews were completed, it was off to the training grounds of Tuwanek, and as many must know already the visibility is less then good…ok, way less then good!  But, Kyle was certainly equal to the task.

Dive One, went well, with all skills being completed with little to no problems. We made our way out to the right mooring buoy, but even at 65 ft, we could only see about 10 feet, in large chunks.  But when we shallowed to the safety stop then visibility droped to less then 5 feet.

Dive Two, was know porblems either, and Kyle looked like he had been diving in a drysuit all his life.  Skills got completed pretty quick…but still the big talk about todays diving was how poor the visibilty was…but never worry we will always be out there, etting the dives completed!!

Interested in taking the drysuit course…well be sure to get signed up….you can even bok your course right here at UWE…so don’t miss out!!

A Busy Weekend for UWE

Uwe and Suncoast Diving had a busy week out on the inlet this past week.  Wednesday had us out at Tuwanek for a SDI Drysuit Course with Christine, she had not been diving in cold water for some time, but she is very interested in seeing some of the treasures that are here on the coast….so off we went to do the course!  The visibility was short as it is this time of year, the water cool…but certainly a 30 minute dive is not all that difficult.  Christine was a natural in the water, and she did an excellent job on the course.

Friday had us up to the HMCS CHAUDIERE and then Pipers Point for a charter.  The dive on the Chaudiere was as always excellent.  The visibility remains pretty short in the first 30 feet or so, but under that it is open to about 30 foot.  Byron and his buddy followed Bruno and I for a little while then went on their own tour.  I was inside the wreck doing some filming when I was abl to obtain this awesome shot of a diver passing over one of the cut outs just as I settle the camera in the same position.  It could not have been any better even if we planned it!!

The second dive of the day had us down to Pipers Point, where we did a quick 30 minute plunge while the other group of divers were out doing their dive.  We were feverishly looking for the Wolfe Eel that was sighted there a couple of days prior to that day…though we were unsuccessful, we did get on a nice sight of a Ling Cod protecting her egg mass.  That is the video footage that we have add to this post for everyone to see!!

Looks like UWE is going to be taking a weeks break on diving, in order to catch up on all of our videos, and to get caught up on our dive stories.  If you are wanting to get out in the water….drop us an email…and lets get something arranged!!

New Drysuit Divers

hedley-jason.jpg UWE would like to extend a big congratulations to Jason and Jak for there successful completion of the PADI Drysuit course.   Both students made their way to the Sunshine Coast wanting to do some diving, and decided due to the winter conditions that they would do their Drysuit course.  We were a little concerned whether we would have a Drysuit in Jaks size as he is around 6’3″ tall, and though certainly not the tallest diver, but certainly he is up there.

Needless to say, we go the suit fitting completed, and got hard at it doing the videos, Knowledge reviews.  It was finally time to hedley-jak.jpg get in the water and get to the diving.  On dive one, we discovered that visibility is about 5 foot, and it remains that short all the way down to around 35 – 40 foot where it finally opens up to about 20 -25 feet.

Both students had no problems completing their drysuit dive skills!!  Well done!! Interested in Diving?  Want to do some dive trianing, be sure to visit our course tabs, or go to Suncoast Diving for more information.

Pipers Point

Uwe and Red Hat Divers were out at Pipers Point working on obtaining underwater footage for a project they are working on.  The dive overall was excellent.  Visibility was good, and the marine life though smaller still amazing.  We were treated with some beautiful Chimney Sponges, Feather Stars and many other excellent marine life encounters.

Get the Flash Player to see the wordTube Media Player.

As our group made our way up to the safety stop, Bruno spied some Buffalo Sculpins resting on a rock, right in 20 feet of water.  These little guys were just sitting there and appeared to be very uninterested in the three huge divers hovering over top their positions.

Interested in doing some diving….be sure to stop by Suncoast Diving and see what is available.

Advanced Nitrox

Uwe would like to congratulate Bruno P for his successful completion of the Advanced Nitrox course. Bruno has been extremely active diving with UWE and SCDC, as well he has been working towards his Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures certification.

It was late in the afternoon, and we were gearing up for what was to be an extremely successful dive on Pipers Point. Visibility has been a little short but we sure lucked out. There is some large pieces of plankton in the water, but for the most part visibility was easily 50 – 60 feet. The dive was great…we saw plenty of marine life, though not large stuff, but there was some Buffalo Sculpin and some nudi’s.

Be sure to check back, as the video of some of the marine life we saw will be posted in the next day or two. Once again well done to Bruno P. Interested in taking some dive courses? Stop by the Courses Page right here at UWE, and see what we have to offer!
